How I Make My Oatmeal: I put the oats and liquid (and chia seeds if using) in a bowl. I microwave it for 2 minutes and let it sit in there for 3-5 minutes to thicken. If it gets too thick, then I add some extra soy milk. I then add my toppings, leaving them on top so that the oatmeal won't cook them (almonds get soggy and fruit becomes baked/ dried tasting). If there is an * beside them, it means the oats were cooked on stovetop.
Stovetop Method: I add the oats, liquids, and seeds to the pot, then turn the stove to medium high. I stir occasionally until it boils, then I lower the heat slightly. I cook for about 10 minutes and add cinnamon, vanilla, and salt (if I'm using all of those things) and continue to cook until it's my desired consistency. I pour that into my bowl.
Oatmeal Tips:
- When using nut butter, I add that right away so it will melt.
- If I can't wait for my oatmeal to cool off, I pour soy or almond milk over the top.
- I add a sliced banana at the beginning of cooking so the sugars will release and there will be fluffy banana bites in the oatmeal.
- For more volume, I use the same amount of oats but add extra water then cook it for longer.
